In Dixie O’Day in the Fast Lane, readers are invited to design their very own marvellous motors, and the entries have been hurrying in to dixieoday.com great speed. I’ve been taking this out and about as a workshop too – next stop Winchester on Tuesday 29th October!
While I’m putting together the new gallery page on the site I am just going to share four absolute gems here…
Thank you to brilliant young artists Sophie, Isaac, Rosie and Kezia – Dixie and Percy would LOVE a spin in your fantastic cars! The world would be a better place if we looked out of the window and saw these driving past.
So do get your pens out and ideas rolling along: we’d love to include your crazy car designs too (with names added within the picture) – the crazier the better!
Hi Clara
Hope you don’t mind me writing to you, but I lost your email address. I met you briefly last year at Cheltenham with one of my five daughters Rosie, who was so impacted by the visit, she insists on reading your books and every Shirley Hughes book we can find. At 45 I have am just finishing my second year of a BA Hons degree in illustration and as part of my professional practice I am trying to intreview a few illustrators to gain a better insight into the varied world of work in illustration. Having worked in the media for 27 years, I am discovering it is very similar to my own experiences. I wondered if you did have the time in your very busy schedule, whether you could answer the following questions for me. Don’t worry if you can’t. I just thought I would ask.
1. What or who inspired you to become an illustrator?
2. What medium do you prefer to work in and why?
3. How varied have the illustration commissions been over the years?
4. How would you sum up your style and intention for your images?
5. What has been your favourite project to date?
6. What tips can you offer up and coming illustrators today?
Thank you so much Clara. We all look forward to reading more about Dixie O’Day in future.
Kind regards
Tracy Spiers
