Easter baking with Martha Monty and Pip

YES PLEASE!

You will need:

  • 175g plain flour
  • 110g butter at room temperature
  • 50g caster sugar (and extra for dusting)
  • assorted decorations: hundreds and thousands, chocolate drops, small marshmallows, white chocolate buttons, icing, brown writing-icing…

Pre-heat the oven to gas mark 2 (300/F, 150/C), and lightly grease a baking sheet.

In a big bowl, beat the butter and sugar together with a spoon until as light and fluffy as a rabbit, then sift the flour into the mixture. Still with a spoon, start to bring the mixture together into a paste-like consistency.

Then squish into a ball and place on a board dusted with sugar. Lightly roll out to about 5mm thick. Use a large cutter (I used the biggest mug I could find) to cut out circles.

Then use a knife to cut out a tulip-shaped U…

… and be happy that you have inadvertently made little bell-biscuits too!
Arrange on a baking sheet, and bake for 30 minutes, until just golden. Cool on a wire rack.

Decorate with anything to hand.

They’re not for YOU, Paws!! Oh alright, just one…
