Behind the 15th window…
it’s a huge cheer for a hand-written manuscript – and a spot-the-diference reveal.

I LOVE receiving the Dixie texts in Mum’s handwriting. The vitality absolutely bounces off the page.
She is gloriously pre-digital, sending postcards instead of emails and picking up the phone instead of texting. I remember her saying ‘would it be better if I had a computer?’ – while packing up a handwritten correspondence between her and Ted Hughes and sending it to a museum. Erm… no I don’t think so!

The eagle-eyed among you will notice something has changed from this early draft to the finished book. A custard cream for the first person to spot it.
