bear thaumatrope

That’s it’s OFFICIAL name, I’ve only just found out; I prefer to think of it as a funny spinny thing! A so-simple trick to make and enjoy, which always wows it’s audience…

Draw two circles onto a piece of card (saucer or side-plate sized). Draw your picture in two halves, the first half in one circle and the second half in the other – making sure they won’t overlap (you’ll see I lightly drew my bear next to the tower of presents and treats, which I can rub out later).

Cut them out and stick them together back to back, then use a hole-punch to make the holes at the edges. Tie on some pieces of string or narrow ribbon. Wind it up by holding firmly onto one piece of string and turning the disc over and over. Then release and gently pull the strings outwards. It looks brilliant!
