my very own young fiction series
It’s always A Sign when I buy a themed new notebook, pens and pencil case.
I’m all about the grave and important things, me.
I’ve kept this a secret for AGES, but my news is that for the first time ever I’ve written a longer story, a young fiction series in fact.
At first I was a bit shy about it – could I do this? was I a real author? – but I made a start…
sometimes I pulled at a thread and the whole bestacnedrug.com thing unravelled, but I carried on and it grew and grew…
and now I’ve just written the satisfying words THE END and the first story will be published next spring!
I am so looking forward to introducing my new character. I hope you like her.
More soon, but in the meantime, given my new stationery and my character’s small doodle of her own favourite hero, I wonder if you can guess her name?

ooh wonderful – I know H will love reading it (her reading has come on so much now, she’s reading short novels – age 6) – this could be right up her street (I suspect it will be!) – can’t wait – and congrats on finishing! x

Clara – I think I’ve guessed her name! I was stumped this morning – but…is it Dotty, short for Dorothy? Is that Dotty’s drawing of Dorothy and Toto? How sweet!!

Eek! Scared! Worried I may realise I can’t do it! Any tips to write my first ten pages…xx
Hello Jo, thank you very much – and OF COURSE you can do it!
Instead of writing the first ten pages (beginnings and endings are so tricky – unless you have something strongly in your head already?), I suggest writing any part in any place of the story that inspires or excites you. In that way you’ve made a start and will feel more confident.
Then you might like to write a little bit across the whole story, like a film storyboard, leaving as many blanks as you need to. Then add and add across the whole thing, fleshing it out.
Your fellow group members will have lots of better tips than this, I’m sure…
